Nokia Delivers Multiple Innovative 5G AirScale Radio Access Solutions Built with Intel Chip Technology
Nokia continues to advance its 5G chip strategy, expanding the deployment of ReefShark chipsets to improve the performance of 5G networks around the world and reduce power consumption.
Nokia and Intel will continue to collaborate on custom ASIC solutions for the 5G wireless product portfolio “powered by ReefShark.”

Espoo, Finland, March 5, 2020 – Nokia today announced that it is partnering with Intel to drive innovation in its 5G wireless portfolio and technology. The two parties have worked closely together on the new Intel® Atom® P5900 processor, which integrates computing, connectivity and acceleration technologies. In addition, the co-developed custom silicon solution is already used in Nokia’s AirScale radio access products as part of its “ReefShark-powered” 5G portfolio, available globally. Through the extensive use of ReefShark in its AirScale portfolio, Nokia is significantly improving the performance and reducing power consumption of its 5G network products. In addition, Nokia will continue to use the latest Intel Xeon general-purpose processors in the AirFrame cloud data center solution.
The collaboration between the two parties underscores Nokia’s continued commitment to developing its 5G portfolio, enhancing AirScale and further enhancing the performance of ReefShark chipsets. The ReefShark chipset adopts the latest chip design technology and manufacturing process to achieve strong data throughput and lower energy consumption, which can provide strong support for Nokia’s 5G AirScale network solution.
